Learn more about the illegal bushmeat trade
We need your help to ensure the future of the Sanaga-Yong family. Through the generous donations of our supporters our chimpanzees receive the food, medical care and protection they need to survive. Your gift will make a difference!
Your donations make possible -
Our nursery babies require infant milk formula, which we purchase locally. The young chimpanzees often arrive at the Rescue Center malnourished and dehydrated. The infant milk formula helps the babies build up their strength and immune systems.
Your funds also feed the adult chimpanzees as the staff travels to nearby villages to purchase fruits and vegetables for the residents.
Although one room, the Sanaga-Yong Chimpanzee Rescue Center has a fully-functioning veterinary clinic to treat the incoming chimpanzees and residents. We are in constant need of help to purchase medical supplies including bandages, antibiotics, surgical equipment, blood analysis kits and pain medication.
When young Arvid was stricken with meningitis and left paralyzed, your contributions help pay for therapy equipment including a wheelchair, exercise ball and tug toys.
Massamba recently recovered from a broken arm. While playing in the forest, he fell from a tree and was badly injured. Thanks to the Sanaga-Yong skilled staff and your generous contributions his arm has healed and he is back to playing with his friends.
Construction projects are an ongoing issue at the Rescue Center, which occupies over two square kilometers . The recently completely Food Storage Facility was made possible by our supporters and local volunteers.
Funds for maintenance are imperative as the Rescue Center must be kept safe and secure to ensure the safety of the chimpanzees to which it is home. The fencing, enclosures, solar energy center, living quarters and the veterinary clinic all require constant upkeep to maintain their structural integrity. Tools, paint, construction equipment, even tires for the Rescue Center pick-ups are all made possible by our dedicated contributors.
We are vigilantly fighting the illegal, commercial ape meat trade. Great apes will remain under the rapidly increasing threat of extinction until it becomes socially unacceptable to kill or eat chimpanzees and gorillas. Contributions toward IDA-Africa help us increase awareness regarding chimpanzees' endangered status and the laws against exploiting them.
All donations to IDA-Africa are tax deductible to the full extent of the law. In Defense of Animals-Africa is a division of In Defense of Animals, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
