Laughing Planet Cafe at 4110 SE Woodstock Blvd will host what promises to be a fabulous event to benefit IDA-Africa!
Six of Portland's favorite bands will appear on the Laughing Planet stage - Trash Can Joes, Nervous & The Kid, Alan Singley & Pants Machine, Sean Flinn & The Royal We, Monarques; with Jared Mees & The Grown Children headlining!
Spielwerk Toys Craft Pavilion will feature activities for children including a coloring contest from which the winner will take home a SkuutTM bicycle, courtesy of Spielwerk Toys.
The HopWorks team will be pouring Akiba ESB, a special Chimp Fest brew, at the Bar Bike. Akiba ESB is available at Hopworks Urban Brewery and Laughing Planet Cafes through the month of August. Net proceeds of Akiba ESB sales at Laughing Planet will go to the Sanaga-Yong Chimpanzee Rescue Center and Hopworks will donate $1 from every pint served at their brewery.
Chimp Fest Raffle Tickets are available at Laughing Planet Cafe locations August 1st through the 14th. Prizes include a Trek Bellville Eco-bike, Mountain Hardwear back packs, Timbuk2 messenger bags and a gift certificate for a pair of Keen shoes. One for $2 or three for $5. Winners will be announced at the event and need not be present to win.
Chimp Fest Gear including t-shirts, hats, totes, hand-thrown ceramic coffee mugs and more are available at the Laughing Planet Cafes, online at www.chimpfest.org and will be available at the event.
Beautiful Akiba, whose name means "thank you" in the local Cameroon dialect, will be our "celebrity" chimp for the event and her image will be on all the specially designed merchandise.
Dr. Sheri Speede will be in attendance to answer questions and share stories of the Sanaga-Yong Rescue Center and our resident chimpanzees!

Chimpanzee Benefit and Celebration of IDA-Africa's 10 Year  Anniversary a Huge Success!
Thanks to Laughing Planet supporters enjoyed an evening of education and entertainment at Laughing Planet Cafe in Woodstock on December 16th. Dr. Sheri Speede, Founder and Director of In Defense of Animals-Africa and Sanaga-Yong Chimpanzee Rescue Center shared her work and the need to help ensure great apes survive and thrive in their natural habitat in Cameroon. All proceeds benefitted the chimpanzees at Sanaga-Yong Rescue Center and our global education efforts. |
