| Simossa

Simossa was orphaned and taken from the forest as a tiny infant when her mother was killed by a poacher for the illegal bushmeat trade. She was kept as a family "pet" for the next five and a half years. Unfortunately for Simossa, her five years living with a human family has left her painfully confused about her identity. She was then abandoned when the family left the country, losing for the second time the family she had relied upon. In November 2007 she was brought to Sanaga-Yong Center where other chimpanzees who have suffered similar traumas will help her struggle to gain confidence in her identity as a chimpanzee. With the love of her adoptive chimpanzee family, which she will never have to leave, she will heal. Simossa is sweet, gentle and lives with Kadie, a baby recently rescued by IDA-Africa.
Read the story of Simoss'a rescue written by Dr. Speede in the 2007 Bush Telegraph.
