Giving Thanks...

This time of year we like to pause to express our deepest gratitude for your participation in the lives of the chimpanzees and gorillas in Cameroon.
During the year we are always so busy putting your contributions to very good use...caring for chimpanzees at Sanaga-Yong Center, rescuing those still in need, and more than ever fighting the bushmeat trade by educating the public to change attitudes and behaviors and to make the consumption of chimpanzees and gorillas socially unacceptable.
IDA-Africa and Sanaga-Yong Chimpanzee Rescue Center were inspired by three chimpanzees Jacky, Pepe and Becky and were created through the vision and devotion of Dr. Speede. Yet, it is the partnership and support from caring individuals around the world that make it all possible.
On behalf of the chimpanzees and gorillas of Cameroon, Thank You!

Animal Planet's 13 episode series titled "Going Ape" will feature IDA-Africa's Dr. Sheri Speede as well as others working for Great Apes in Cameroon.
Tuesdays from 21 November 10pm throughout the UK; they feature efforts to save an injured, orphaned baby gorilla named Shufai, among other stories.
The series centers around work for gorillas and chimpanzees at three different collaborative projects in Cameroon.
We do not yet have the dates for when the series will air in the US. The US producers are waiting to see how the series is accepted in the UK before they purchase it. We will let you know right away when we have more information.
Help us spread the word -- tell your friends in the UK! |

Sanaga-Yong Chimpanzee Rescue Center provides sanctuary to 57 orphan chimpanzees, employs 23 full-time staff, and has 4-6 volunteers at a given time. Sanaga-Yong Center manager, Agnes Souchal, handles all of these responsibilities in collaboration with Dr. Speede and most importantly, she knows all of the chimpanzees so well.
We are grateful to Agnes for her unwavering devotion to the chimpanzees and her exceptional contribution to IDA-Africa. Her second year as manager is approaching and since she first came as a volunteer in 2002, we have been very fortunate for her skills, insight, and the wonderful way in which she interacts with, understands and cares for the chimpanzees.
Thank you, Agnes, on behalf of the many chimpanzees for whom you have made an immeasurable difference.
