Join Us for Great Apes Giving Day, Tuesday Oct 4th!

We are excited to announce IDA-Africa and Sanaga-Yong Chimpanzee Rescue will be participating in Great Apes Giving Day on Tuesday October 4th, a day dedicated to the protection of primates in sanctuaries and those free-living in the forest!

Funds raised will go to continuing the highest quality of care for the chimpanzees of Sanaga-Yong Rescue, to expanding and increasing forest protection, and to raising awareness to help protect great apes still free-living, but endangered.

Please help us reach our goals by:

1. Saving the Date! Please mark your calendar for Tuesday, October 4th and save this link - Sanaga-Yong Chimpanzee Rescue.

2. Follow us on Facebook and Twitter and enjoy our exciting updates on the sanctuary, our critical conservation work and our commitment to educating the youth of Cameroon!

3. Help us spread the word! Share the excitement with friends and family by forwarding this email, and sharing our Facebook and Twitter posts. #greatapesgivingday!

4. Please Donate! Donate to Sanaga-Yong Chimpanzee Rescue on or before Tuesday, October 4th.

Matching grants and cash awards for fundraising and number of people helping are all part of the anticipation of Great Apes Giving Day! The more money you help us raise and the more people you get involved, the more we will be eligible for additional funds provided by The Arcus Foundation!

You can make the difference in the lives of great apes now and in the future! Thank you for your help!

Thank You to Our IDA-Africa Friends and Family!

Saturday evening, September 10th, over a hundred of our IDA-Africa friends and family gathered together at the University Club in downtown Portland to celebrate the chimpanzees of Sanaga-Yong Rescue and those still free-living in the forest! We are so very grateful to our guests for attending our event and supporting the critical work we do! And to those of you who were unable to attend, but generously made a contribution to help care for the chimpanzees of Sanaga-Yong Rescue! We are also extremely thankful to the dedicated volunteers who helped make the event a HUGE success! Our work is only possible with the support of dedicated people like you who want to make a difference in the lives of great apes now and in the future! Thank you all again for your compassion and generosity!

Three cheers from the children of Cameroon to all those who contributed to their Indiegogo campaign!

It's not too late to donate! Watch Their Video and Click to make a Contribution to the 2016-2017 school year!

Our fun five-day classroom program is designed to teach compassion and conservation to protect Cameroon’s chimpanzees and other wildlife from extinction. The Indiegogo campaign may be over, but it’s not too late to donate! Our goal is to administer the program to 3000 students and 50 teachers in the 2016-2017 school year and you too can make a difference! Thank you for helping us to foster compassion for chimpanzees and all animals who share our planet!

In the forests of Cameroon, habitat destruction, and the illegal, commercial ape meat trade are driving chimpanzees rapidly toward extinction. While vulnerable populations dwindle, individual chimpanzees suffer unimaginably. The chimpanzees who die violently in the forest at the hands of poachers are not the only victims of the illegal ape meat trade. Infants who survive the hunt can be sold as pets in Cameroon or smuggled out of the country into North Africa and Asia, ultimately condemned to malnutrition, disease, loneliness and misery.

In Defense of Animals-Africa is giving orphans a second chance to live with dignity and joy in the enclosed tracts of habitat forest at our Sanaga-Yong Chimpanzee Rescue Center. We currently care for 72 chimpanzees, ranging in age from two to over fifty years.

Working in collaboration with Cameroon's Ministry of Forestry and Wildlife, we have rescued many of our residents while they were still infants. Others have languished years, sometimes decades, on chains or in tiny cages before we could change their lives.

IDA-Africa is working to solve the root of the problem through national and international awareness and by working with Cameroon's government to support law enforcement.

"All who read this book will be deeply moved! How fortunate for Dorothy and the other orphaned, captive chimpanzees - and for those of us who care about them, passionately - that there are people like Sheri Speede who risk their health, and work for a pittance, to rescue them. Sheri's words will bring a tear to all but the hardest of hearts. And a lot of smiles as well!" - Jane Goodall, Ph.D., DBE founder - Jane Goodall Institute & UN Messenger of Peace
